I got my husband - a no computer guy - an iPad for his 76th birthday. Now that we're out of the mountains we actually get Internet service. After seeing Julie's and Cari's comments, I read this out loud to Pete as we traveled the highway. We both love your creative ability.
And it surely brings back memories in our lives...though things were much simpler then. I rode my own horse across other farms to get places and Pete rode his bike after 9th grade classes to the outskirts of town with rifle on his back to shoot pheasants. No A/C in cars. My radio listening time was a continuing drama story each Saturday morning while I did my weekly job of scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees. Discipline was a man's belt hanging on the washroom wall...it spoke for itself. My brothers rode across 2 farms with cousins to tie their horses up and go into the outdoor movie theatre to sit on the ground to watch - then ride home. Such unhindered freedom without worry of predators and modern dangers. Parenting then was so much simpler ... Teaching your children hard work, honesty, integrity, focus, and to love God and memorize the scripture for next Sunday!
Keep on writing Holly! We loved the second picture.
May God bless you and your family when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord shall make you the head and not the tail and you shall only be above and not underneath (Deut 28).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1002613940214653957.post-21381911061741627732011-09-17T12:19:39.030-05:002011-09-17T12:19:39.030-05:00Oh, Holly! I can TOTALLY RELATE!!! :) This was ...Oh Holly!! I can TOTALLY RELATE!!! :) This was hysterically truthful!! That's what we mom's do! But lately I've been forced to find drivers for my myriad of children so that I can still stay with the nursing baby!! :) I remember once during an ice storm that Steve called me and said he had locked his keys in the car down at Crown Center (about 30 min away), and would I please bring the spare key?! The whole way I drove there I was thinking unholy thoughts about how reckless it was of him to lock his keys in the car, and ask me to drive in hazardous conditions to bring him the spare. I had almost cooled down when I reached the hotel, he ran out to the car to meet me, I rolled down the window to say "HI!" and then had the horrible realization that I hadn't even grabbed the key to bring to him! I had been so preoccupied with thinking how irresponsible he was, that I didn't even grab the spare key!!! Oh my, the Lord sure put me in my place that day as I drove back home, got the key, drove back to the hotel to deliver it.... 2+ hours total driving time in the ice!! OH, and YES! I look like the mom at the top of the blog, and completely imagine myself looking like the mom in the bottom picture!!! Keep writing Holly!! :)Mrs Wonderfulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05847788662198415007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1002613940214653957.post-18971490646148474852011-09-15T21:27:25.485-05:002011-09-15T21:27:25.485-05:00Oh my word, Holly! I drive and drive and drive and meet needs..........just like you said. I start out the day really happy about it, but as the chaos grows................I have to pray more! :) Thanks for your perfect explanation of so many days I have too! Glad we're in this together! :)Oh, I like to think of myself as the lady in the last picture too! hahaha! love ya! But, really, I am doing what I've purposed from the start and that is to be available to my children and invest my time in them.

In a world that tries to make us too busy and self-centered to raise our kids, it's good to know we're not alone :)Michellenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1002613940214653957.post-34862450639798992812011-09-14T11:31:58.362-05:002011-09-14T11:31:58.362-05:00Oh Holly! How i miss those days of driving, dropping off and picking up and practices, practices, practices and making sure they got their forgotten books, lunches etc. yes your quiet times are probably after everyone is in bed and you are exhausted! That was my time of peace and quiet. I have four children and they were all involved in something from sports to music and i was the designated neighborhood driver! "Sure mom can take you"
so please even tho it is like this now, enjoy every little thing cause it will soon be quiet and you too will miss all the rukus. Till the weddings and then the grandbabies.........
Thank you Holly for a wonderful blog keep it up! What is our Midwest Bble belt doing wrong to be so unsafe?? Better question, what is Hong Kong doing right? We need to know! You need a subway, affordable taxis, safe buses and in general a safe city and you would have been able to have you quiet morning all to yourself as each family member took care of themselves ;)
Come to Hong Kong Holly!!!

(loved your blog by the way :) and as a suggests topic I think something on social media would be great. As an educator we get pulled into a slu of Facebook trivia that then carries over into the school setting. Parents seem to have little control over what their kids are doing on Facebook and haven't a clue as to how they should deal with the drama that takes place there. I always have grand fashion blog ideas in my head that never come to fruition because of time and discipline. Blogging is work, girl!
Keep it coming, Holly. We all need refreshing honesty in this overwhelming job of motherhood! Where do the hours and days go? Heck yes!! Are you the only one? Nope...relate??? Heck yes!! Are you the only one? Nope, right there w/ya!! Crazy? I hope not!

My morning started out having to go BACK to drive-thru that I took kids to for breakfast to pick up credit card I forgot in my haste to get kids to school & #3's duty as safety-patrol today.

Alls' good, still excited that I get "grown-up" time w/real, grown-up women at meeting today & possibly able to sit & relax for oh .... maybe in hour or -gasp- 2! W/in 30 min of arriving, get text from kid #1 that he has a flat tire & panicking since he has class & a test in just over an hour (in downtown Tulsa). I am now in BA, & rush back to S Tulsa thinking "no prob ... he can take my car & I'll just rent a car". He takes my car & there are 0 rental cars available in the ENTIRE city for the next 2 days due to several "events". I am now stuck at home unable to figure out how to get BACK to BA to pick up either husbands truck or kids. After about a dozen calls (& seriously considering whether I should start walking to BA), I find a sympathetic mom who will drive me to pick up hubbys truck by 3:00 to make it to kids on time.

Now, one car .... 3:15 school pick up time in BA, 5pm meeting in downtown Tulsa, 6pm football practice in Bixby, back to pick up hubby at hospital to go BACK to Bixby to pick up #3 at 8pm. WAIT! Didn't I wake up this morning thinking this would be a much-needed somewhat slow paced day?!!! Oh ... and have I mentioned that I forgot my purse (with my wallet & license!) in MY car? UGH! Oh well, thank you Jesus that #4's 6:30 soccer practice in Owasso is NOT today after all! :)Karen Hnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1002613940214653957.post-56346169099300217882011-09-13T14:34:28.269-05:002011-09-13T14:34:28.269-05:00Oh Holly . . .
