I started off selfishly too since I was working from home and needed that extra time. I had read about it in a magazine originally. But now none of my kids have trouble playing independently from each other and they know their "room rules" and for the most part are very happy to have room time. When my oldest started pre-k and my middle was 17 months and I had a newborn I started room time for my middle so I could shower while the baby was sleeping. Sometimes he would scream the whole 15 min but mostly after about 30 seconds he'd stop and play and be content to play even longer so I could occasionally even put on make up lol! Sometimes room time was the only alone time I ever got during those months.Katiehttp://www.wisdomfromdandelions.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
